Haiku

A red tail hawk floats
in a seamless desert sky
looking for dinner

Have a great day writing?  Who do you think Donald Trump will pick to write the occasional poem for his inauguration?

Harm not.  Help all you can.

    1. I've been asking about the poet for the inauguration for weeks. It will be interesting to see who gets the honor.

  4. Joy, your poem definitely connects with me. Yesterday, while traveling back from a state conference, I spotted a beautiful hawk diving through the sky. I supposed it to be his solitary journey until later I saw another group of them. While I live in New York, your red hawk connects with my black ones in his purposeful pursuit. Thanks for sharing. Do you have an offering for my Autumnventure Gallery?

    1. Isn't there something spectacular about watching a hawk circle? I always feel so inspired to be my greater self when I see the soaring.

  5. I love seeing those hawks up in our skies too, Joy. Your question makes me wonder if there will be poetry? Guess we will discover if Trump takes time for sweet things.

    1. Exactly. It isn't required, but since Kennedy started it with Robert Frost, it has become a tradition. And in times of stress people turn to poetry, so I hope it is something that can start the healing.

  6. Yes. I think many of us will be striving to harm not and help all that we can in the coming days, months, years.

  7. Red tailed hawks hunt above our backyard, sometimes I wonder if they are thinking about eating our dog, Smidgey! =)

    1. A hawk wouldn't want to eat Smudge, he's too tough. The hawk would rather have a rattlesnake.
