Wonder

Do you ever wonder
how moonlight
halos your hair?

How stars
twinkle and glitter
in the quarter moon air?

Do you believe rainbows
come at the 
best of times?

And poems
sometimes come
all set in rhymes?

These are days
I feel I am
a lucky one

to see another
day with 
a rising sun.

     What do you wonder about?  What do you think about when you look at the moon or the stars?  can you write a poem about that today?

     I have a special treat today.  My friend Cory Corrado is a brilliant photographer and poet.  She has designed a beautiful, awe inspiring book, NATURE SMILES, using both of her skills.  She has given me permission to share the link to her book with you.

SWEET SUGAR!

Sugar, Sugar,
Sugar Cookie!
You're the sweetest one.

Count your fingers.

Count your toes.

     I thought I was done with cookie poems, but then two more came along to bite me.  They wouldn't let me go until I wrote them.  That is how poems are sometimes.  When my sister and I were young we used to count Whoops Willie on the tops of our fingers.  "Willie, Willie, Willie, Willie, whoops Willie, whoops Willie, Willie, Willie, Willie."  The whoops were that space between thumb and fore finger.  I have no idea where the game came from, but we did have fun doing it.  Like a tongue twister, we tried to say it over and over, faster and faster without twisting our tongues and messing up.  Today's poem is meant to be recited to a very young child.  Can you write your own counting poem?  Have a fun time.

FIVE RED PICKUP TRUCKS

RED PICKUP TRUCKS


Five red pickups parked at the store,
a farmer got in and slammed the door,
drove off,
then there were four.

Four Red pickups parked by a tree,
A painter with a ladder got in ,
drove off,
then there were three.

Three red pickups parked at the zoo,
monkeys picked the lock,
drove off,
then there were two.

Two red pickup trucks parked in the sun,
a clown walked by, climbed in,
drove off,
then there was one.

One red pickup truck let its engine run,
out raced a robber, jumped in,
drove off,
now there are none.


Can you write your own  counting rhyme?  Maybe you'd like to count up instead of down.  Or count to 10.  Do you know the counting rhyme, 10 Little Indians?  That one counts both up and down.
