Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

THE MOOSE

copyright 2014, Clo Ann Smith, used with permission

There is a moose
on the loose
rampaging through our town.
He is standing
in the elevator
riding up and down.

This is a silly nonsense verse.  I got to thinking about an Albatross playing Lacrosse, a Bear in a chair, a Crocodile with a smile, etc. this morning.  Can you have fun writing your own nonsense verse today?  Pick an animal and do something crazy.

Manners

Hugh, Hugh
what do you do
when someone
comes to stand
in an elevator
with you?

You ask them kindly,
Please, what floor?
then push their button
and close the door.

Do you remember the first time you rode in an elevator?  I do because the town I grew up in only had two elevators.  Do you remember the first time you rode on an escalator?  I had to go to the big city to ride on one.  My mother talked to be about "how to ride an escalator" before I took my first step.  I was frightened and thrilled at the same time.
I'm still having fun with these manner poems.  What courtesy can you write a poem about today?  Do have fun writing.  I also tried writing a concrete poem for "elevator" today.  I am having a good time with poetry.  I hope you are too.
