POWDERED SUGAR

Powdered sugar in sifter
to shake, shake, shake
falling snow flakes
on cookies and cakes.

Drifting on the gingerbread,
falling with joy
on my head.
Shake, shake, shake.

I'm calling this an action rhyme.  Can you figure out the actions?  We had a little snow yesterday.  Quite unusual for Tucson.  Perhaps this is why I was thinking about powered sugar.  What is your favorite flavoring or spice?  Can you write a poem about that today?   I must be hungry to be thinking about food poems.  Have fun writing your poem.  Do you know what the phrase "salt of the earth" means?  Happy Friday.

haiku

chilling morning wind
blows white seeds from the broom sage
lacy snow flakes drift

This morning's walk was lovely.  It seemed like everyone was smiling at me, but maybe that was because I was smiling.  I don't know why I was feeling so good, except it is the start of a new month and December really is a lovely month.  I see my name everywhere.  Maybe that is why I like December so much.  It is a season of giving and surprises.  I've started planning some of mine.  Your challenge for today is to write a December poem.  How about a list of all the things you want to do this month?  Have fun.

THE PEAR TREE

Spring is coming.
The pear tree blooms.
Each blossom lacy.
Its glory looms.
Each petal a snow flake
Falling in the breeze.
As small green fists
Push out on the trees.
The leaves on branches
In wonder they bring
Sounds of their coming
For birds of the spring.

It has been an unusual week.  I took this picture on Tuesday when it was 73 degrees. On Wednesday we had snow, something almost unheard of in Tucson.
But my daffodils are showing yellow about ready to bloom.
I hope your winter is almost over too.  Can you write a poem about the coming of spring?  What does spring mean to you?  Robins?  Paperwhites?  Violets?  Tree frogs singing?  Have fun writing your poem.

Poetry Friday roundup is hosted this week by Sheri Doyle at sheridoyle.blogspot.com   Thank you, Sheri.  I enjoyed reading about your Dad.  My father-in-law had his 92nd birthday today.
