Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

WHAT IS POETRY?

WHAT IS POETRY?

Writing is an act of ego and you might as well admit it. --William Zinsser

What is poetry?
It is finding the truth, no need to lie.
It's munching on watermelon and letting seeds fly.

It's a letter that come with a card in the mail.
It's the lacy silver threads left by a garden snail.

It's daffodil trumpets covering the hill.

So now, what do you think tomorrows line will be? I'll give you a hint, it is going to rhyme with hill.

What does poetry mean to you? Can you write your own poem today about what makes a poem?

If you'd like to see me perform my poem HOW TALL IS THE BOY, published in THE POETRY FRIDAY ANTHOLOGY FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL, compiled by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong, check out Renee LaTulippe's blog at NO WATER RIVER   You'll also be able to see George Ella Lyon, Heidi Bee Roemer, Heidi Mordhorst, and David L. Harrison presenting their poems from the anthology.  It is really fun to see poets performing their poems and David Harrison even plays his trombone--flat.
