Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

MY CAT

My cat
is a curious thing.
She stalks birds
'til they take wing.

If you had a cat, how would you describe her?  Can you write your own cat poem today?  What happens if you start with, "My cat is...?"

My cat
is a motor
she purrs to be fed.
All day she sleeps
upon my bed.

My cat twines
around my feet,
she purrs and purrs
for food to eat.

My cat
turns her nose
up at fish.
She pushes it
from her food dish.

" Time is a harp/ That plays to you till you fall asleep."  Hilda Conkling, "Shoes of the Wind"

  1. "Pets" make a great writing prompt! My grandmother used to own a Siamese cat and I believe she was part princess.

    1. I grew up with a Siamese cat that I would dress up in my dolly clothes.
