SUNRISE

.

Sunrise.
Welcome
the birth
of a new day.
See
the gem
sparkle
over
the bay.
Watch
light
rise
into
the sky.
See
your future
drifting by.
When
all the world
has a rosy glow,
and the day
is full of magic
with room
to grow.

Happy Poetry Friday.  Were you up early enough to see the sunrise?  The sunrise in Kapaa today was at 7:26 AM.  It comes very late when I'm on the far west of the time zone and the sun has to get over the foothills before it gets to me. My sunset is after 6:30 in the evening.  What magic will happen for you today?  How will you grow yourself today?  Can you write a couplet about your Friday today?  Have fun writing.

  1. It's been too long since I watched the sun rise. This sounds beautiful.

    1. I wonder why you remember the ends to the day and not the beginnings--they are filled with so many possibilities.

  3. Your mention of sunrise made me think of Haleakala. Visiting there years ago -- one of the few times I made it a point to get up so early. :) Can you tell I'm not a morning person? Enjoy sunsets though . . .

  4. I have to wait for the sunrise too, Joy, to top the buildings across the street. I still miss the eastern view from my former home. I love your watercolor today, too, and these lines, just perfect: "Watch
    light
    rise
    into
    the sky.
    See
    your future
drifting by." Have a happy day!

    1. I'm having a great Saturday. Sorry about leaving your old home, but it was the right thing to do at the time. You handled that with extraordinary flair. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you for your kind comment about my water color.
Will you be spending Valentines Day with the grands?

    1. Hey Robyn, I'm waiting to get out my lino blocks and knives to start carving. Like needing writing to be perfect, I keep putting off starting for fear of it not being good enough. I hope your weekend is great too. Plus there is always one more box that needs unpacking.

  6. There is almost nothing more beautiful and peaceful than a sunrise over an empty beach, colors changing moment by moment and the wind to blow your cares away.

    1. Doing sun-downers has the same effect. Watching the beach wash clean with each in-coming wave can take your breath away.
And since the whales are migrating now, we can see mothers and babies swimming together. It is too beautiful.

    1. Thanks Linda for your comment. I do enjoy the days when I find time to get my water colors out. I'm looking to see if I can find an art class on island.

  8. I'm an early bird, so I'd rather have an early sunrise and sunset than late ones...but no matter when they come, I'm grateful for each and every one!!

    1. Yes, I'm grateful, too. I'm often up before the sun and get a good amount of work done. As my daddy always said, "It beats the alternative."

  9. My school is on a kind of hill on the west side of Denver. Most mornings, I go to the second floor and watch the sun rise over the horizon. That image centers me for the whole day. On Tuesday when I watch, I will think of your poem.

  10. My that is a late sunrise time! Sunrises are one of my favorite moments of the day. It's not only the way it looks but what it invites.

  11. Lovely, Joy! I was going to say I wish I had read it yesterday morning on my birthday, but actually, I think I am glad for reading it the day after, when the birthday glow has already worn off. Besides which, you're right in that each new day offers "magic with room to grow." :)

  12. Joy, I love this part:

    " See
    your future
    drifting by.
    When
    all the world
    has a rosy glow,
    and the day
    is full of magic
    with room
    to grow."

I am a morning person, and life always feels more optimistic for me in the morning so I totally relate to that. I can tell you're enjoying your new home with its very sensible sunrise and sunset times.

    1. Thanks, Violet.Yes, every morning is a new beginning. Can you tell I'm a morning person too? I'm glad you liked the poem. Yes, I'm really enjoying my new home, if I only could get it organized. I keep working at that. I must admit I feel a little guilty when I look at winter temperatures on the mainland. It was 0 degrees in Rochester this morning. WOW. I have the windows and doors open, a gentle breeze is blowing through, and I'm bare foot.
