Fairy Dance

Down in the meadow
it's raining today.
Fairies are dancing.
They've come out to play.

Having a party,
they're drinking tea
and they've invited
both you and me.

They're eating cookies
and small cakes with cream
and they'll disappear
when we wake from our dream.

Do you like having tea parties?  If you were to have one, who would you invite?  What would you eat?  Can you write your own poem about a tea party?

Today is Poetry Friday and  Diane Mayr at Random Noodling is hosting the roundup.  You can find more links to poetry here.  Thank you Diane for hosting us this week.

  2. The first stanza is my favorite--fairies dancing in the rain is such a joyous image!

    1. I'm glad you like the image. At one Highlights Poetry Workshop, Eileen Spinelli gave us all bottle of soap bubbles. I took mine out and blew bubbles in the rain. I was surprised that the wet grass and the rain didn't burst the bubbles, instead the rainbows swirled. It was pure magic to see the bubbles building up in the grass. I did feel like the fairies were keeping my bubbles alive. Oh, I wish you had been there to play with us.

  3. I keep wanting to plant a fairy garden, Joy. Maybe some day? Jama posted that it's National Cream Tea Day! Love your poem, can just imagine peaking under leaves to see those fairies!

    1. My garden center had about 25 fairy gardens on display one year. I had the best time taking pictures. The fairy garden would be fun to do with your grand girls.

    1. Didn't you know the fairies always come out when it rains? Who else do you think makes the rainbows? The fairies are the reason why plants grow after a rain.

    1. Oh, thank you for saying that. There are a couple of rough spots in this and I'll do more with it someday, but for now it needs to sit while I think about it for awhile.

  8. Thank you for inviting us to the tea party. I enjoyed hosting them for my daughter and her little friends but we never had a fairy visit.

    1. Actually, the fairies were there. You just didn't see them. I'm sure if you had looked you would have seen them. Did you listen for the fairies?

  9. Joy, your poems always make me feel like I'm a little girl again. Thanks for the invite. I'd love to come. I'll bring caragana pods for everyone.

    1. Oh, sweet Violet. That is one of the kindest things anyone has ever said to me. Thank you. My poems are aimed for children, so if I make you feel like a child again, I've done my job. Now if I inspire you to paint fairy pictures, I will have hit it out of the park. Have a great weekend.

If you look to the comments above from Carol Varsalona you'll see where the RAIN poem came from. It was thinking of her comment that got me there.
