A giggle
is a
wiggle
that starts
in
your
tummy.
Your challenge for today is to write a poem about something that makes you giggle. Or write about having a fit of the giggles. I can remember my sister and I staring at the door to try to keep from giggling. The moment we'd stop and turn to each other the giggles would start again. Have you ever giggled so hard that you wet your pants? Oh, just write the poem. Have fun.
Welcome
This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

A WILD RIDE
A fairy rides on a toad
who is white.
She giggles and laughs
and sings with delight.
They jump through the forest
where her flower beds loom.
And she whispers to me
It's magic that makes
my garden bloom.
Her pansies are bigger
than that white toad,
as together they leap
on down the road.
Elves, brownies, pixies and fairies, all kinds of wee folk live in the forest. When she isn't riding on her toad, what do you think the fairy is doing? Can you write a poem about that today? Have fun?

THE MAN WHO NEVER SMILES
I'm going to visit a man today
who keeps his smiles locked away.
He stores smiles up, won't let them out
his face forever wears a pout.
To get a smile, he wants you to pay.
He says they're saved for a rain day.
I'm skipping off to tickle him
to see if I can get a grin.
I plan to visit for a while
until I see him start to smile.
I'll bust out those smiles, set them free.
I'll give one to you and giggle with glee.
The inspiration for today's poem came from TODAY I WILL, A YEAR OF QUOTES, NOTES, AND PROMISES TO MYSELF by Eileen and Jerry Spinelli.
Do you know someone who never smiles? Why are they unhappy? What can you do to give them a smile? I hope today has you smiling. What ever you do, don't save your smiles, share them with everyone you see today. Can you write a poem today about someone you gave one of your smiles to?

THE FRIDAY DANCE
Toes wiggle.
Ankles rotate.
Knees bend.
Legs kick.
Hips sway.
Waist twist.
Tummy jiggle.
Chest giggle.
Right stretch.
Left stretch.
Face smile,
Big,
All the way.
It's Friday.
Let's Play.
Have you ever watched football players doing a happy dance when their team makes a touchdown? It is Friday and I'm feeling especially good to have made it through this week. So, I'm doing my own happy dance. Your task for today is to think about your own happy dance. Can you write your dance into a poem? Sometimes if you make your body happy moving, the rest of you will follow. Have a fun Friday.
Ed DeCaria is hosting Poetry Friday today at Think, Kid Think. You can find many other Friday poems to read here.
