Birds on a Wire

There is a poem out there
floating in the air.
Quick, can you grab it
then sit in your chair,

With a pad of paper
and a pencil or pen,
writing words down
is how your poem begins.


   What words will you get down with today?  Writers like to call the time they spend writing as BIC time--butt-in-chair.  If you don't spend a little time each day, every day writing, you get out of the writing habit and all those lovely words you might write, and all those delicious poems out there floating in the Universe waiting to be discovered, will be lost or they might float on to some other writer.  I believe this.  Where do you think the inspiration for poetry comes from?  Can you write about that today?  Have fun writing.

WRITING SPACE

I have a writing space,
my own special place,
my desk, my pen
ready to begin
my own sacred, creative space.

    The word "sacred" in this poem is important to me.  For me, this means-- holy. b : entitled to reverence and respect (taken from Webster's) and it means I should honor my writing process and the space I use to write.
    Do you have a special place?  Somewhere where you like to go to work out problems or get ideas?  For your poetry challenge today, can you write a poem about your space?  What makes this space your own?  What does it look like?  What is special about this space?  Have fun writing.

POEMS LIKE A RIVER

Write like the river.
Let your words flow.
Where it will take you
you may not know.

It might be to fantasy
or could be sci-fi.
Words create reality, 
so give it a try.

Let poems drift
out of you pen,
and then when you're done
start over again.

   Happy Poetry Friday!  You poetry challenge for today is to try free writing a poem.  If you get stuck try sitting quietly and making a list of all the things you hear.  Then can you shape that list into a poem? Have fun writing.

     I'm travelling and having some problems posting from my iPad.  I'll post this poem for now and will fix it later.  Boy, is this frustrating.

MY CASTLE

A pen is a castle
where I want to be
writing so wild
so daring
and free.

Yes, give me a pen
that I may write
happy all day
and into
the night.

Tuesday Morning--Writing

This morning as I sit here
my paper and pen idle
on the table.
I watch out my window.
See two rabbits
leaping over one another,
jumping, darting
around the creosote bush
happily dashing into each other
and I pick up my pen to
dash and leap
writing a poem for today.

     What do you see when you look out your window?  Can you write a poem about that today?
