Logan Reads

Logan loves to read
every book he sees,
novels, books of jokes, mysteries
monsters, dragons, ninja folks.
Every time he starts to read
his brain gets bigger, yes, indeed.

     What kind of books do like to read?  What have you learned from reading a book? Can you write your own poem about libraries, books or reading?  Have fun and enjoy your summer.

Books

I like to read

and learn new things

Love the adventures

reading brings.

I like the story

of the blue whale

and the princess

in a fairy tale.

I read nonfiction

and books with facts.

Reading is my way

to relax.

But, my favorite books

as you can see

are the ones 

with poetry.

     I'm off to the Tucson Festival for the Book today, so I thought I write a poem about reading and books.  Can you write your own poem today about reading? What is your favorite kind of story to read?

I Love Gram a Lot

Grandma loves to read in bed

says a book just hits the spot.

Tonight she can not read to me,

her glasses she forgot.

My Grandma, my grandma,

her glasses she forgot.

I will run to get them

because I love Gram a lot.

Grandma wants a soaky bath,

hot water hits the spot.

Gram says she's a wrinkly prune--

a bath towel she forgot.

A towel,a towel,

oh Grandma has forgot.

I will run to get her one

because I love Gram a lot.

Under the Covers

Shhhhhhhhhhh!
Don't make a noise.
Don't make a peep.
The rest of the house
is trying to sleep.

While I'm under the covers
with my flashlight,
I'm reading a book
through half of the night.

      Stephanie Greene has a blog, flashlightunderthecovers.blogspot.com which I enjoy reading.  I bet you'd enjoy reading the books she has written.  Perhaps you'll read one of her books in bed.   Have you ever taken a flashlight and read a book under the covers so no one would know you were awake reading after bedtime?  I certainly did--a lot.  Do you have a ritual you go through to get ready for bed?  Do you brush your teeth?  Do you pack your backpack, or set out your clothes for the next day?  Try writing a poem about going to bed.  Have fun.
