Keys from THE POETRY FRIDAY ANTHOLOGY

KEYS
     by Joy Acey
Princess of Poetry

Jingle, jangle,
keys on a ring.
To the house,
the car,
or anything.

Jingle, jangle,
can you hear
the keys
sing?

Now let's see if I can get this to work.  It is supposed to be titles and the Princess of Poetry reading KEYS from The Poetry Friday Anthology.  If I can't get this to work, I have also sent this video to Renee Latulippe to use in the video library on her blog NO WATER RIVER.  So as soon as I know where, I'll put the link here.

Don't you love how the sun burst on my tiara is like the sun burst on the Anthology cover?  And my hair color almost matches the color of the cover of the book.  You had better believe I'm having fun with this.  Some things do work out right.

Copies of the Poetry Friday Anthology can be ordered from Amazon or directly from the publisher Pomelo Press.

thanks to Amy VanDerwater for hosting this Poetry Friday roundup at the poem farm.

  1. Congratulations, Princess! I love your green wig, the tiara and the matching sunburst! And what a bunch of jingle-jangling keys ... I wonder what they open. They can really sing. Well done, Joy!

  2. That wig! Very entertaining, Joy :-) I like the singing sound of my keys -- it's worrisome when I am feeling around in my purse for them and I don't hear it!

    1. Hey, Tabatha.
I have electronic entry for my car so my keys aren't even a key any more--just a fob, and they stay in the bottom of my purse and don't come out unless I need the keys to stay in the car. It is a changing world and it won't be long before kids won't know that I'm using jailer's keys for this poem.

    1. I usually have fun with poetry. If it isn't fun, why do it? I always have fun with the kids when we do poetry together. Thanks, Tara.

  8. Joy,
Very well done! Fun,fun, fun! Your reading and entertainment were delightful. I love old skeleton keys. You're right, keys are a dying entry device.

    1. Wearing the wigs in the classroom works really well for getting the kids' attention and keeping them interested in what I'm talking about.

  10. Oh, I am always losing my keys! I wish they sang like yours do. Or maybe if my keys were as big as your keys...I wouldn't have the problem! Thank you for the fun today, Joy! a.

  11. Very fun. Princesses with green hair are all the rage I hear. Since I have donated many many keys to the Primary classes these past years (my husband owned a retail store that sold car sound equipment, etc. & a lot of keys were collected), I know that they would love this Joy, jingle jangle & all.

    1. Oh Linda,
I wish I'd known you back in the days when my kids were in school. Odd keys are so much fun for so many activities--sorting, counting, craft activities. Oh, you've just given me an idea for another poem. Thank you.

  12. Delightful, Joy. A green-haired, tiara'd princess with a handful of gigantic keys can't help but stir the imagination!

    1. If you are moved to write your own poem about keys, the doors they open or the locks; please do. Have fun.

    1. Thanks Mary Lee,
Yes, I'm having fun. Proud, I'm not so sure--there are still mistakes in the video (shakey camera) that I'd like to get better with--then maybe I'll feel proud. But as long as I'm having fun, I'll keep working at getting better--the sign of a true Princess.

    1. Laura,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I wore the green wig to go with the cover art on the Poetry Friday Anthology.
Today I wore my pink wig for SCARVES (12/3/12) to honor Sylvia Vardell and all the Women in Pink.
