I'm sailing along
on a briny sea.
There's a lighthouse on land
in front of me.
I watch its mirrors
spinning around
to help keep my boat
from going a ground.
Here is where
I want to be,
sailing along
on a briny sea.
If you had a sail boat, where would you sail? Who would you take along? What would you do? Can you write a poem about sailing today? Have fun letting your imagination go wild (Wandering In Lovely Destinations). Just write.
Welcome

The Fairy and the Imp
A little fairy
and a tiny imp
went down to the sea
and dined with shrimps.
They supped with scallops
and some lobster too.
Then went for a ride
o're the ocean blue.
The fairy paddled
over the foam,
and the tiny imp steered
their boat home.
There is a real world and a world of magic. I think I like the fun of visiting with magic. How about you? So, here is your challenge for today. Can you write a poem about the world of magic? Have fun writing.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY
For Fathers Day
Dad will get his wish
because my dad and I
both love to fish.
Out on the lake
we'll take the boat
throw in our lines
to watch bobbers float.
Doesn't matter if we catch fish
or how bad is the weather
the best thing about fishing
is we are together.
Happy Fathers Day to all the dads.
Can you write your own tribute poem to your Dad or Grandpa? What is the best thing about him? What do you like to do with him? Is your dad a hero to you? Why? Have fun writing.

TRAVELING
You can travel by car
or travel by plane.
You can go by boat,
or go by train.
But wherever you travel,
and what ever you do
take me along so I
can stay close to you.
Here is the question for today--what is your favorite way to travel? Can you write a poem about that today? Personally, I really like going on the back of a flying frog.

HOW THE WHALE FELT
Oh, dear! What should I do?
I opened my mouth
and a boat with Jonah
came in too.
A boat and Jonah,
I should note
are stuck
down there
inside my throat.
Oh, dear! What can I say?
I've coughed and coughed
but they won't go away.
Oh, dear! I feel quite ill.
No matter my effort,
they're stuck there still.
Oh, dear! I don't want
Jonah for a guest.
With him in my throat
I can not rest.
Oh, dear! On keeping them
I'm not too keen,
I like food filtered
through my baleen.
Oh, dear! I'm surely stuck.
that wooden boat
is my bad luck.
Oh, dear! I can't take much more.
My throat is raw
and very sore.
Oh, dear! I don't want to pout.
Can you tell me
how to get them out?
This is a poem that works well for a group reading. The group can repeat the refrain of, "Oh dear!" or members of the group can be given separate lines. Can you try writing you own poem with a repeated line today?

Haiku
hungry seagulls skim
over the back of the boat
searching for hand-outs
Why is it when I'm in a rush, I frequently turn to haiku? Can you write your own short poem today about rushing? Have fun.

Jungle Happiness
It is hot days and cool nights.
It's hiding in the long grass
so you have to carefully
look to see the tigers' stripes.
It's a whole pride of lions
resting in the trees and
zebras and giraffes racing.
It's plants growing large
in the humidity
and when you find a river
it's the elephants trumpeting
and hippos blowing bubbles.
It's watching out for crocodiles
and alligators and flesh eating fish.
And being very careful NOT
to rock the boat.
What would make you happy to be in the jungle? Can you write your own jungle poem today? Have fun.
