The oranges
on my citrus tree
are big and round,
bright and shiny.
I cut one open,
it tastes delicious.
I wish you were here
to try it with us.
It does seem strange to me that as much of the US braces for a winter of snow, my little orange tree is just coming into its own. We planted this tree two and a half years ago and it is finally bearing fruit. Today's poetry challenge is to write a poem about your favorite fruit (or vegetable).
Welcome
This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

PRICKLY PEAR
I'm working hard
doing the best I can.
I'm cooking up some
prickly pear jam.
It is sweet and tasty,
I don't want to boast,
but it tastes delicious
on my morning toast.
Making prickly pear jam isn't easy because there are lots of stickers to deal with. what is your favorite flavor of jam. I had friends give me strawberry jam and apple butter that they made from their own fruits. Homemade jam on toast tastes wonderful! Can you write a poem today about your favorite flavor of jam? Maybe you want to add peanut butter and write about a sandwich? Have fun playing with words as you cook up your own sweet poem.
