I SAW A PANDA

Oh, yes! I want to scream.

I saw a panda

eating ice cream.

The bamboo flavor,

he gave it a lick.

The panda loved it;

he ate it up quick.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?  Do you know that zoos often make nutritious popsicles for the animals to cool off during the summer heat?  Does the zoo near you do this?  What is your favorite zoo animal?  Can you write a poem today about what the summer is like for that animal?  If it went on a vacation, where would the animal go?  Have fun writing your poem.

Ice cream, like children's poems, comes in

 all sorts of flavors.

Ice Cream Month

I love ice cream,
in a cone or a dish,
on a spoon or a stick.

In July I dream,
I want my wish,
to eat a different flavor
every day that I pick.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?  I'm thinking it would be cool if I could eat a different flavor of ice cream every day during National Ice Cream Month.  Can you try writing your own ice cream poem today?

A children's poet finds things to love and write about.

Things I Like in Summer

I like hamburgers
and french fries to chew
chocolate milk shakes
and ice cream too.

I like roses
and irises blue
cool long grass
with morning dew.

I like making necklaces
bead by bead,
and summer books
I can read.

I like going to the movies
whenever I can
to see Laurel and Hardy
and The Thin Man.

I like swimming
and riding my bike.
Can you tell me
what you like?

I've been feeling really tired and down lately and I find that making a list of all the things to be thankful for often pulls me out of my funk.  Can you make a list of the things you are grateful for?  Can you turn it into a list poem?  Have fun writing.  I hope this is a super great day for you.

My Teddy

WOW! I don't know what happened, but I had this poem all ready for Sunday and it didn't get posted.  Sorry about that.  So here it is.

My Teddy

My teddy bear
is my best friend.
He's always there
at night we spend
our sleepy dreams
together dancing,
eating ice cream,
and traveling
to foreign lands.

I LOVE GRAMPS

The ice cream truck comes rolling
down our tree lined street.
Grandpa says he'll buy me
an ice cream for a treat.

When it's time to pay the man,
guess what Grandpa hasn't got?
His wallet is in his bedroom.
Grandpa, he forgot.

His wallet, his wallet,
oh Grandpa he forgot,
I will run to get it
because I love Grandpa a lot.

When we gather at the table
our family says a prayer.
Grandpa starts and then he stops
because his pills, they are not there.

His pills, his pills
oh Grandpa he forgot.
I will run to get them
because I love Grandpa a lot.

Yesterday was Grandma, so today has to be Grandpa that forgets.  Do your Grandparents forget things?  Do you help them to remember?  How can you help others?  Can you write a poem about that?  Can you share your poem with your grandparents?  Then ask them to write a poem for you.  Have fun.
