I'm tired.
I'm sleepy.
I'm going to bed,
so ideas
I'm thinking
can swim
in my head.
Do you work out problems while you sleep? I often do. If I'm having a problem with a story I'm writing, I frequently think through the problem while I sleep. Or, just before I go to sleep, I think of all the things I need to do the next day. While I'm sleeping my brain orders and simplifies all the tasks and in the morning my list seems much easier to get through. Did you dream last night? Your challenge for today is to write a dream poem. It doesn't have to be logical, but use good details. This is your dream so you can make it anything you want. Have fun writing.
Today I can create an awesome day for myself because I am the director of my life.
Welcome
This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

TWO DOGS
Two dogs
playing in the yard,
panting,
running fast and
hard.
Drinking
from their bowl they
chug.
On a sisal rope
they both tug.
Two tired dogs
take a rest,
under the porch
in a dirt nest.
I'm sorry this is late. Sometime, it just can't be helped. I'm sitting in a McDonalds having a bacon and egg biscuit for breakfast and enjoying their free WiFi connection. So, what did you have for breakfast this morning? Can you write a breakfast poem? Have fun writing.

I'm Tired
Today I'm feeling sleepy
I want to take a nap.
But, every time I shut my eyes
I feel my brother's tap.
I thought I'd try the hammock.
I wasn't being lazy.
Brother called with chores to do
Some days he drives me crazy.
Tonight I guess I'll have to try
to get some extra sleep
and then I'll feel as if I can
run and jump and leap.
What plans do you have for today? Do you have chores to do, or can you be lazy? Can you write a poem today about your Saturday activities?

Dream Poem
There is a river
I skate upon
in my dreams
from dusk until dawn.
Oh the adventures,
skating near and far
and when I'm tired
I rest on a star.
What do you dream about? Your dreams can take you anywhere. Can you write your own dream poem today? Make it fun.

HEY!
Mantra for a Tuesday afternoon.
Get your act together.
Do you have a plight?
Just sit your bum in that chair
and write, write, write.
OK, not great. But it is a little poem, a very little poem, and it does express how I'm feeling today. I really, really need to get some work done. I've been busy with everything but my writing. I bet you have days like that too. Can you write a very short poem today about how you are feeling?
There are times when
I feel
Rather sluggish, and
Energy
Deprived.
Try an acrostic if you're having trouble getting started.

TIRED
Played hard all day
with blocks
and trucks
and reading books.
I've had
a busy day.
I think
I want
to take
a nap.
What did
you do
today?
Quick, how do you fell right at this moment? Are you happy, sad, disappointed, glad, mad, tired, frustrated? Can you describe how you feel? Our emotions are a slippery thing, and that is why we need to write about them. Have you ever thought about how a young child learns to label his emotions? So just for fun today try writing a poem about how you are feeling. You're welcome to share your poem in the comments below.
Have fun writing.
