I'M ME!

No matter what's out.
No matter what's in.
Try to delight
in the shape you're in.

Sometimes you're happy.
Sometimes you're not,
but who you are
is all you've got.

So try to make 
the best of today,
and when you're gone
you've done it your way.

    Each of us is unique and different.  Celebrate and rejoice in your differences and try to be the best you, you can be each day.  So, can you try writing a poem about being you today?  What do you like doing?  What makes you different?  What makes you the same as your friends and family?  Oh, what a lot of fun things to write about today.

we can do.

BEING ME

Today I'll try to be the best I can be
because there really is only one ME.

I'll work really hard to learn and to grow
because I'm the only me that I know.

I'll read a book, write a poem or three
I'm the only one who knows how to be me.

When we play together, you will see
You can be you and I will be me.

  

    This is the start of a poem.  Where it is going, I don't know yet.  But, it is Saturday and that makes it a play day for me--a day to feed my creativity well.  What will you do today to feed yourself? Try to write something today even if it is only a shopping list or a to-do list (it is often easy to turn those into poems.) 
   Today is the birthday of  Theodore Roethke (my birthday poet) and Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Perhaps you can find some time today to read some of their poetry.

ME

Sometimes I'm happy.
Sometimes I'm sad.
Sometimes I'm good.
I try not to be bad.

But whatever I am,
whatever you see,
I try to be glad
that I am me.

Today I decide
what I will be
and I'm glad that
I'm happy and me.


    How are you feeling on this Monday?  It is a new week?  What are you going to decide to do this week?  Pick one thing to work on this week and see if you can make it happen.  Do you have a book you want to finish, or a spelling test to ace?  Maybe your goal is to make your bed each morning.  What is your goal?  Can you write a short poem about it?  Have fun.

Free

Blessed by the moonlight

and sparkling stars all around.

Blessed by the sun

that casts my shadow

on the ground.

Blessed by my fore fathers

who traveled over sea.

They fought for  liberty

so I am free to be me.
