bounce thin branches
of the mesquite tree.
For lack of rain,
the paloverdes
have lost all their
tear drop leaves.
Date palms flap
and everyone,
everyone waits
for monsoons--
soon monsoons.
Please hurry.

The leaves are like tiny little tear drops.

Your challenge for today is to write a poem about your favorite plant. Have fun writing.
We could sure use a monsoon around here. I like your poem about the mesquite. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWith my son &.family in N. Texas-they need a monsoon too! Nice poem, Joy, about these wonderfully adapted trees.
ReplyDeleteThe locals tell me that this year's monsoon season is going to be a good one. The Saguaros have far more blossoms/fruit/seeds that usual. So they are getting ready for the rains to keep their species going. I hope so.
DeleteJoy,
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your much needed rain.
I hope so too. I feel like Lizzie in the Rainmaker, praying for rain but not willing to really believe until the rains come.
DeleteWhat a fascinating plant! I wish I could send some of our recent (almost daily) rain and cool temps your way. I'm sure we'll get blasted soon enough, but until then, we are enjoying the 70s.
ReplyDeleteThankyou thankyou thankyou for my Summer Swap poem, watercolor and POETRY BOX! I have a cache of Altoid boxes and I was planning to make some...now I have a model...and some magnetic words to use for poetic inspiration!
I'm so pleased you enjoyed the swap. I had so much fun making the box for you. Hey, your thumb must be better if you typed that comment. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
