Since my hand is in a cast, I've been reduced to one hand typing and this encourages me to write really short poems. Hence the haiku.
dancing in moonlight
silver steps in the garden--
a snail creeps along.
And if you think typing is hard, you should try controling a paint brush with your non-dominant hand. But I'm still plugging along. For your poetry challenge for today can you try writing you own haiku about something from nature that has 8--like a spider, an octopus, or even an elephant. (RATS! I made a mistake, elephants only have six sets of teeth.) Did you know that elephants have 6 sets of teeth in their life times? Have fun writing and you may leave your haiku in the comments below if you'd like to share your creation.
The Poetry Friday Round Up is hosted by Katya Czaja on her blog Read. Write. Repeat. You can find links to lots more poetry for children here. Thanks for hosting us at your poetry party, Katya.
Today I'm making a list of eight great things in my life.
Thanks for sharing a poem today despite your broken wrist. Love the drawing too!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Joy! The "silver steps" are gorgeous in the moonlight. Beautiful colours in the art.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your wrist. (I broke my wrist years ago--not fun at all.) I hope you heal quickly. Amazing to imagine you painting with your non-dominant hand!
Is that a silk painting snail? The colours are so vivid, it makes me think it is. (It's gorgeous!) Lovely haiku, too. I hope your wrist is fully-functional and pain-free soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your art and Haiku. On my best day with my dominant hand, I could never create anything that approaches the beauty of your snail. I love those colors. ...I love your resigned sense of humor, too, making short poems out of a broken wrist like lemons out of lemonade. Bravo! God bless you. Hope you're totally healed soon and very soon!
ReplyDeleteThe haiku is wonderful,as is your vibrant snail. I hope your injury heals soon. I am most impressed, however, with your one-handed accomplishments--I would be thrilled if I could create something comparable with both hands!

ReplyDeleteJoy, when I saw a picture of you and your cast on FB, I wondered how you would manage Poetry Friday. I see you did just fine or should I say better than I could have ever imagined. I watched the parade of slugs in my garden for years. I love the way you announced your snail's entry into the poem-dancing in the moonlight. Here's hoping that you will be dancing in the light soon without a cast to burden you.
ReplyDeleteJoy, do you have a fall poem and photo or drawing to send in for Autumn's Palette Gallery?
ReplyDeleteI like it... What are your 8 great things?
ReplyDeleteYou keep this up, Joy, and surely you'll be ambidextrous by the end of this! Love "silver steps" and the snail's bluey-pearlescent shell. Also, the background that's as pink as your cast!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your arm, but your haiku and painting are fabulous! Is your non-dominant hand your left one? There is some research that suggests right handers draw better with thier left hand, but it doesn't work the other way (ie left to right).
ReplyDeleteJoy, I'm amazed that you can still paint. It's a lovely painting, and I love those "silver steps". Take care, and sorry about that arm!
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely. Both the painting and the poem.
ReplyDeleteYou're so dedicated and loyal to your followers! Liked the elephant trivia. Hope to hear your list of eight on another day.
ReplyDeleteOops! I made a BIG mistake, elephants only have six sets of teeth. I guess I should have been thinking on sixes. Can I blame this on my pain meds?
DeleteBest wishes for a speedy recovery so you can get back to two-handedness! At the same time, learn all you can in this time of slow awkwardness. I'm sure there are plenty of lessons there...
ReplyDeleteDespite your injury you are still a gifted poet and painter. =)
