December

Sunsets come earlier
and the sunrise
waits for a later time
making more of the night
leaving me in darkness
except for the bright
of a too white
December moon.

I don't know why, but over the last couple of years I've been learning more about the moon, Indian legends and other folklore about luna. Maybe it is my midnight writing.  I used to write in my closet at night, now I'm in my studio with windows.  So, of course I look out into the desert at night. I find it interesting that half of our lives is spent in darkness.  Most people sleep through it.  Your poetry challenge for today is to write a night time poem.  Have fun writing.

The moons of our lives are a blessing.

  1. Instead of the Midnight Rider, you're a Midnight Writer! Sometimes, I'm a pre-dawn writer. Have a great time writing during the day or at night.

    1. It doesn't matter when we write, just that we do. I keep telling myself, my hand is getting stronger each day. The packers are finishing up today; the movers come tomorrow.
I sure hope everything fits into the shipping crate.

  2. I love these lines:
    "except for the bright
    of a too white
    December moon".

How can it be too white? I'm waiting to find out, to see what you saw...

    1. Heidi,
Usually my moon is yellow, or sometimes it has a redish glow. But on the night I wrote this poem, the moon was full and very bright. Outside the Saguaros cast moon shadows and it was so bright, light came in through the windows. I could walk around the house without turning on a lamp to see.
Isn't the moon "too bright" on nights when your part of the world is blanketed with snow?
