Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

DAVID PARKER

I'm a curious kid
always asking why
always wanting
to know how things work.

My best friend,
I figure out
is a little plastic card.

I carry it
in the zipper pocket
of my blue school backpack.

It lets me check out
books from the library--
my library card.

Each time I learn
with my library card.
Next time I know
I'm checking out
a book
on geometry.

Do you have a library card?  What does it mean/do for you?  Can you write a poem about your library card.  Since an ode is a tribute poem, perhaps you'd like to title your poem Ode to My Library Card.

  1. Joy,

I love the humorous ending to your poem! I also love the library so much that I am seeking a job there. I hope to hear an answer soon.

Please tell me why you chose the title you did for this poem or is David Parker the author of this one?
