Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

Apples

Apple pie,
     Apple Betty,
          Apple crisp,
Make them ready.

I can eat apples
    every day.
It is how I keep
    the doctor away.

Are apples your favorite fruit?  Bananas?  How about watermelon?  Lately I've been thinking about writing concrete poems (shape poems) for fruit and stressing the color.  Red apples, yellow bananas, pink watermelon (maybe orange cantaloupe would be a better example.)  Do you want to try one?  Draw some circles for purple grapes and put one word in each grape.  Maybe, round, globe, sweet, world, ball, lavender, puce, egg plant, sugary, wine, fruity, crisp.  (I could continue with all the words to describe wine.) I forgot raisin.  Do you get the picture?  What other purple words can you think of?  Crayon? Rainbow? Indigo? Violet? Harold?  Have fun making up your own concrete poem.
