Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

A substitute teacher
came today.
My friends and I
thought we'd play

A joke on the sub--
the old switcheroo,
we moved our desks
and switched names too.

The sub called me, "John."
and I replied , "Who?"
Our poor sub didn't know
what to do.

Our teacher returned
and she was sad,
said we'd treated the sub
terribly bad.

We knew we had
but what could we say?
While she was gone
we wanted to play.

  1. Joy,

    1. Oh, Linda, substitute teaching is really a fun job. The kids are so engaging and there is always something new to learn. You do have to be good at thinking on your feet. I loved doing it, but then the school district let me teach all grade levels and I even got to teach at the hospital school and in special needs classes. I've gotten some good poetry from working with the kids.

    1. Middle school kids were always my greatest challenge, but they were also the most fun too. Wait, no I think my favorites were the youngest ones, but I loved the high school kids too--now they taught me a lot.
