WHO MOVED THE RUBBERTREE

I say, "I can."
You say, "I can't."
I'll keep trying
because I'm an __ __ __.

I had fun writing another riddle poem.  I hope you had fun writing too.
Can you write a poem for an insect today?  Have fun writing.

I rub my legs and make a noise,
kept in a cage by Chinese boys.
My music they say brings luck and cheer.
Some use me to tell the temperature.
As a favorite insect many pick it.
Hear me chirp, I am a __ __ __ __ __ __ __.

The Poetry Friday Roundup is hosted this week over at Arthor Amok.  Thanks for hosting us.

  1. Fun riddles! Although that first one strikes a little too close to home as we battle with these critters. We don't really mind them as long as they keep their home out there away from OUR home in here!

    1. Yes, why is it, once ants figure a way into your house, it is really, really hard to get rid of them. When I lived in Santa Monica, I tried so hard to get rid of the ants but they kept coming up the pipes in the kitchen to get to the water.

  2. Hi, Joy. It's so cool when a title really contributes to a poem's meaning. I'm admiring that first riddle today.

    1. I'm usually really terrible with titles, but this time I needed something to suggest ANT, so it just came knocking on my door--a gift to use. Glad you liked it. Thanks.

  4. Joy, riddles are so much fun for the little ones but I like them too. The rhyming pattern engages the reader in a sing song manner. 1st poem reminds me of my childhood.

    1. Carol, you've got me thinking of a conversation between two ants. I wonder what they would say?

  5. Joy,
I agree that the rubber tree title helped to solve the riddle and make it unique and fun.

    1. That is part of the challenge with a good riddle. You need to provide enough information so someone can solve the riddle, but not too much to give the whole thing away and make it boring. Part of the enjoyment for me is to include fun facts that a young child might not know. Thanks for stopping by Linda.
