GOOD BYE DOVES

Doves sit on the courtyard wall
making their dove-y coo-y call.
Saying hello and good bye
before they fly
into the blue, blue sky.

The doves usually huddle on my back hurricane fence, but today they all sat on the wall in front of the house so I'd be sure to see them.  They didn't want to be missed.  Have you ever missed something?  What was it?  Can you write a poem today about something missed?  Have fun writing.

Cold turkey sandwiches are de-lish.
The Poetry Friday Roundup is over at Carol's Corner.  Go here for links to more children's poetry.  Thanks Carol for hosting us.

  1. Nice, that 'dove-y coo-y call'. Doves are scarce in my neighborhood. I think it's too shady.

    1. Linda,
There are lots of doves and pigeons in Tucson. Friends tell me that the pigeons hang out south of Speedway (a main street in town that cuts through the U of AZ campus) and the doves are north. It is like the railroad tracks that separated the two sides of old southern towns.

  2. I like how the doves "asked" to be your poem today! Great reminder to keep our eyes open!

  3. Even if they don't live in Hawaii, I hope a complementary set of doves find a way to welcome you to your new home. Harbingers of peace, may peaceful be the watchword of your move. God bless you!

    1. There are lovely little rock doves in Hawaii. They have really loud voices and move like the waves on the ground.

  6. Hello and goodbye--goodbye and hello. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a series of poems, all dovey and cooey, about the things you will miss, and then another set of poems about the thing that greet you in Kaui? Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy the shift.

  7. My dad used to call them CooBirds...
Love how they lined up so picturesquely! How could you not write about them when they ask so politely?

    1. Robyn,
Our house hasn't sold yet. I'm getting very anxious about that. I know you know the feeling. Thank you for your snail-,ail card.
