Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

As March slowly
slips away,
m-u-d-l-i-c-i-o-u-s
children come
to play.

And April knocks
upon the door,
her bonnet tied
against wind's roar.

Spring is here
in one quick bound,
shoots push up
through the ground.

March is almost over.  Say good bye to March.  April is almost here.  Say hello to April.  In the Hawaiian islands we have one word for both hello and good bye--Aloha.  I think that is partly because no one ever really leaves.  Part of them always stays with us. We have the memories of our times together.  Or, as my teacher points out, you are breathing the same air as Christopher Columbus, Shakespeare or George Washington. So, for your poetry challenge today, can you write a poem about someone or something that is coming or going?  Have fun writing.

Just write anything and put it out there with reckless abandon.  Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic.

    1. Thanks, Rosi. Considering I wrote this in the dark of night, it must have been the Universe conspiring to make my poem meaningful. Keep writing. I love the idea of the Universe trying to make me greater than I think I am. I know it is working for you too.

  2. Aloha, Joy! I can't believe March is almost over and it has been weeks since we ate lunch together in Tucson! I'm glad your poems land in my inbox so I can enjoy your unique perspective on life (and your Hawaiian adventure.=)

    1. Thanks, Bridget.
I miss you too. But we can have a virtual cup of tea together this afternoon, right before I take off for the farmers' market in Kapa'a. That is what I love about living here. There are farmers' markets on every day of the week on a different part of the island. I had fresh papaya for breakfast.

    1. Thank you Linda. I knew you'd catch that spring detail. I had a straw hat as a little girl. My mom changed the artificial flowers and ribbon for three years running for my Easter bonnet.
