haiku

yapping coyotes
punctuate the still of night
December's bowl moon

I was awake in the middle of the night last night.  I love when that happens because I can get up to write.  The house is still; the world is quiet.  But last night, as I was walking around in the dark to get to my studio, it was very bright outside.  I looked for the moon and I saw a big white bowl.  It might have been a very big smile.  What do you do when you can't sleep at night? Can you write a poem about that today?  Or try writing about what you see when you wake at night.  Have fun writing.

Meeting with friends is a fun way to write.  Find a friend to write with today.

  1. Won't you miss those coyotes yipping in the night? Maybe you should record some night sounds to take with you to Hawaii. Thanks for the poem.

    1. Ah, Rosi, but I'm exchanging the coyote howls for chicken clucking and crowing. I'll let you know what other night sounds I hear.

  2. Joy,
I like Rosi's idea of recording your wildlife's cries. If I can't sleep in the middle of the night, I sometimes go to the computer or read. I am glad you find it a productive time to write. You have a great attitude about interrupted sleep!

    1. Something has been disturbing my neighbor's two German Shepherds at night lately--probably javelina. With all my anxiety about the move, and the strange twinges in my broken wrist, I haven't been sleeping soundly.
