National Chocolate Cake Day

HAPPY NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY

Make no mistake,
today is the day
for chocolate cake.
I'm off to the kitchen,
I'm going to bake
my very own
chocolate cake.
The frosting
I will also make
to decorate
my chocolate cake.
And if you find
you'd like some too
hurry on over
I've a slice for you.

Did you know today is National Chocolate Cake Day?  To celebrate there are three things to do:
1. Bake a chocolate cake.
2. Frost a chocolate cake.
3. Eat chocolate cake.

It's my kind of day.  Did you know I love chocolate?  What is your favorite dessert?  Today feels like a food poem kind of day to me.  Can you try writing a poem today about food?  Did your dog ever eat your dessert?
I took cupcakes to a meeting recently and a woman was there with her service dog who promptly tried to steal a cupcake off the table.  Now there is a poem I should write.

HAPPY POETRY FRIDAY

It is Friday and Carol Varsalona is hosting Poetry Friday.  You can find more poems at her blog Beyond Literacy Link.  Thanks Carol for hosting us.

Be the joy someone needs in their life today.

haiku

JoyAcey, 2017

moonlight
thinned to a thread
a snail slips a trail

Oh, I love when I make time to play in my studio with water colors.
I went outside early this morning at 6:30 to take the trash can out to the street before the trash truck came to pick it up.  Our sunrise is coming at about 7:16 now, so it was still very dark.  When I looked at the sky to the East, there wasn't even a hint that the sun was on its way.  Instead, I saw the almost new moon (such a thin sliver) with just enough light to add sparkle to the trail a wolf snail was making.
There is poetry everywhere if you just take time to be aware.

This weekend is the Chinese New Year.  There is a Lion Dance/parade in Lihue for the year of the rooster.  Chickens are very special where I live on Kauai, so this should be a special event.
Can you write a poem about something special to you?  Have fun writing and planning for a great weekend.

If you keep your eyes and ears open poetry will visit you.  Write.

Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Swing

Joy Acey 2017

My chicken is a dancing bird,
he really loves the swing.
And every time the sun comes up
we ALL can hear him sing.

I had fun playing with another bird today.  I'm finding if I use that big U shaped body, I can draw lots of different animals with small heads. (I sketched a hippo, a bear, a cat and a pig.) I had fun playing with my water colors today.  What did you do today that was fun?

I also played with painting flowers on a vine.

Joy Acey, 2017
What are you aware of today?  Today, I'm trying to be aware of the vibrations I'm sending out into the Universe.  I want it to be a glorious, happy, positive day.
I have a friend who told me her mother will not let her into the kitchen to help make meals when my friend is mad or angry.  Her mother says it affects the the food and everyone who eats it will taste the anger.
Can you write a poem about something you are aware of today?  Have fun writing.

Words are like birds, they float in the air

Joy Acey, 2017

I wish I was
a hooty owl
sitting in a tree
so I could ask
who-who are you
of everyone
I see.
If you could be any bird, which one would you chose to be?  Does your state have a state bird?  Have you ever thought what it would be like to have a pet bird?  Try writing your own poem today about a bird.  Have fun.

January 2, 2017 Monday

How was your day?  I'm starting to get organized for the new year, but the weather outside is so nice, I'd rather be outside.  Can you try writing a poem about how you feel today?
I hope it is a great day for you too.  As Picard from Startrek would say, "Make it so."

You have the power to make today a good day.  What have you done to make it a good day for someone else?
