My yoyo is a marvelous thing
it climbs up and down
on its yoyo string.
I roll my yoyo
to stay in the deep,
I've taught my yoyo
how to sleep.
I toss my yoyo out
Around the World,
my yoyo can whirl,
my yoyo can twirl.
Sometimes I do
make a mistake
the string starts to fray
and then it breaks.
So,
if you come to play yoyos
there is one thing
you can bring
it is a pocket
of extra
yoyo string.
Still, we've had no rain.
Still, the temperature is above 100 today.
Still hot winds blow
and the best way
to keep cool
is to be still.
It is so hot..., can you write your own hot or wet or dry poem today. Just have fun writing.
Welcome

POCKETS
Dad's pockets hold
his wallet and car keys.
Mom's pockets have
a tissue for her sneeze
My sister's pockets
hold a nail file
and a package of gum.
My baby brother's pocket
holds a box
of golden raisins.
My pockets hold
all sorts of things,
a rock, a beetle,
an extra yo-yo string.
There is also something
that might be a surprise.
It is a poem
I'm trying to memorize.
What is in your pockets? Can you write a poem about that? Or better yet read some poetry today and try to find a poem you would like to memorize. Write the poem out and put it in your pocket so when you have a few moments you can take it out and work on memorizing your poem.
I'm going to try to memorize more poems this year. Won't you join me? You never know when having a poem can come in handy. Have a fun Sunday.

Christmas YO-YO
For Christmas I want a yo-yo
I'm sure it is the thing
that will make me happy,
with an extra bag of string.
First I'll learn the throw down
I call that Over the Falls,
soon I will be yo-yoing
in all of my school halls.
Daily I will practice
to spin Around the World
and then I'll try to Loop de Loop
with the yo-yo string unfurled.
I can throw a Sleeper
and then try to wake him up.
Next I'll learn to Walk the Dog
though it may start as a pup.
Then I'll Rock the Baby.
That would be so grand.
If I got two for Christmas,
one yo-yo for each hand.
All of the words in italic are yo-yo tricks. This was a fun poem to research. I had no idea there were so many web sites to teach one how to throw a yo-yo. I'm still working on more Christmas poems. Do you want to try one? I'd love to read your poem. Have fun.
