CHOCOLATE

I  like chocolate
chocolate pudding,
chocolate cake,
chocolate cookies,
I like to bake.

Steaming hot chocolate,
chocolate pie,
and chocolate éclairs,
I like to try.

Chocolate frosting,
chocolate candy,
chocolate cupcakes,
are just dandy.

When I'm hungry
and want a treat,
chocolate is what
I like to eat.

Today's poem is a list poem.  All it does is list all the chocolate foods I could think of and start with a statement.  The poem fits Abraham Lincoln's guidelines for writing a speech--Tell 'em what you're gonna tell 'em.  Tell 'em.  Tell 'em what you told them.  Can you write your own list poem today?
This poem was inspired by Susanna Hill.  She always gives the readers of her blog something chocolatey delicious to eat.  Or at least that is what she did today.  I'm featured on her blog in her "Would You Read It Wednesday" post.  You can hop over there to check it out by clicking here.

  1. Hi, Joy! Nice to have found your blog through Susanna Hill's Would You Read it Wednesday. I 'try' to write a lot of poetry for kids too and will be following your blog. Nice pitch too. ;0)

  2. I just found this through Susanna's chocolatey blog and have subscribed by email. I wrote poetry and have sold to High Five as well -- three action rhymes and a story. I look forward to reading your blog and learning more about writing poetry. Oh, and I love the design of your blog. You will know why if you take a peek at mine.

  4. Joy,
I'm so happy to see you as a guest at Susanna Leonard Hill's blog. Way to go! How cool of you to write a poem about chocolate because Susanna shares chocolate (photos) and you're featured on her site today. Yes, I'd read your book in a minute--well not quite that fast. ;)

  5. Yum, yum. There is a little verse I know that is just for you, Joy. "Oh chocolate taste I love so true, nothing else will ever do!" Nice to hear your chocolate rhyme! I didn't know you were a guest elsewhere-will try to find it!

    1. Linda, I love your little rhyme. Good show. After I posted this I thought of all sorts of other chocolate things I could have added. I guess I didn't do ice cream because I've been cold lately.:-)
