I know
how a poem begins.
It starts in quiet,
my mind still,
my palms together,
fingers pointing upward
just under my chin.
It starts as a prayer
for the right words.
How do poems begin for you? Can you write a poem about that today?
Writing children's poetry is a labor of love.
Beautiful, Joy! I love this poem, and the drawing too. Did you do the drawing yourself?
ReplyDeleteYes, that feeble attempt at a quick sketch is my work. I'm really paranoid about violating someone's copyright so almost all of the poems and art on my blog are mine. Check out tomorrows post to see something a little better. It is the time it takes that is the real deterrent to posting more art.
DeleteThis is lovely. It's a wonderful way to think about poetry.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rosi. I've been having fun putting together a presentation for a poetry society meeting, so I've been thinking a lot lately about writing children's poetry.
DeleteBut doesn't everyone pray over their poems?
Joy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for this lovely poem and a reminder to pray over all our work.
