MY KITTEN

Have you seen my kitten?
She really is quite small.
I've looked in the kitchen.
I've looked down the hall.

She is not on the couch
where she curls into a ball.
She usually starts to run
when she hears my call.

I might have an idea.
I think it is a plan.
I'll see if she comes
when I open her food can.

I will place her kitten food
in her little dish.
Look, here she comes.
She must have smelled the fish.

When was the last time you lost something?  What was it?  Where did you look for it?  Can you write your own poem about something lost?  A dog, a fish, a bird, or how about a smile?  Do have fun writing.

You are growing.  Celebrate the changes in yourself.

Happy Poetry Friday.  The Poetry Friday Round Up is hosted by Amy Ludwig Vanderwater this week.  You can gallop over to her blog at THE POETRY FARM to lasso more poetry.  Thank you Amy, for hosting us this week

  1. You've described this phenomenon well, Joy. Cats are able to hide in the home where one cannot find them at all! Rattling the food dish worked for us, too!

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I was surprised how well this poem fit with Amy Vanderwater's poem today. The Poetry Friday Roundup does that.

  2. It does! How does that happen, Joy? There is some kind of magic going on, I think. And today my own kitty slept by my side as I read and enjoyed the posts. What a fun poem - like hide and go seek with a pet who doesn't know you're playing! Happy Poetry Friday! xo

    1. Hey Amy. Thanks for stopping by. This isn't the first time we have created poems on the same topic at the same time. It is why I think of you as a poetry sister. Happy Saturday too.

  4. Oh, this goes so nicely with Amy's lost dog poem! The first thing that struck me was now your cat image and my dog image on the Link page are the same color, same size and same position!

    1. WOW! Thanks, Donna for the insight. I'll have to go back and look at the pictures on your blog. Lots of serendipity in the air. It must be this spooky month.

  6. Ha ha! Too fun! The same can be said about my dogs when they hear a bag crinkle!

    1. You betcha! My dog would come running every time he heard me open the drawer where I kept his leash. In fact I used that trick when I needed to give him his heartworm pill or the dreaded bath.

  7. Cute poem and one kids can certainly relate to. I lost an umbrella recently and finally quit worrying about where I lost it. I lost it when we had a rainy spell during the hurricane last month. This seems like a weird time to lose an umbrella--I needed it every day for over a week. I must have used my hood and never thought about it again. Oh well. Maybe you can write a poem that calls it home. ;)

    1. I wonder how many lost umbrellas there are each year, especially in places like New York or London where there are LOTS of people taking public transportation. I wonder if there is a picture book (similar to THE DAY THE COLORS QUIT) about all the lost umbrellas. What would happen if all the umbrellas quit, went on strike, or ran away? How many broken ones have you had in your lifetime?

  8. My dog is rabbit-obsessed and she runs to the kitchen when she hears me get out a carrot for the rabbit! Enjoyed your poem, Joy. I hope things are going well for you.

    1. My dog used to love to chew on carrots. I love this story Tabatha. Thanks for leaving a comment.
The house isn't sold yet. We reduced the price again this weekend.
