Do you have a book you're reading right now? What kinds of books do you like to read? I hope you're reading lots of books this summer. Can yu try writing a persona poem today in the voice of your favorite book, or a character from a book? What would it or he or she tell you? I know lots of books that would complain about being dog-eared, having someone fold the corner of the page over to keep the reader's place instead of using a book mark. Hve fun writing your poem.

ReplyDeleteI loved the suggestion of a persona poem. I can imagine two books in a conversation and one is upset about being dog-eared and the other takes it as a compliment that he is loved! I'm so glad you're spending time teaching poetry writing workshops. I heard about your invitation to present at Washington state, I believe. Am I right?
Yes, I'm presenting at the first Poetry Camp at Western Washington University on Oct. 1. There will be a gathering of over 40 children's poets and I'm so excited to be a part of it.
