Today I'll change my sheets
and tidy up my room.
I'll put my toys away
and get the job done--zoom.
I'll straighten all my books
and put clean clothes away.
I'll do all my chores,
It's Saturday, cleaning day.
Do you have Saturday chores? Can you make a list poem today about all the things you have to do? Have fun writing.
Welcome
This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

A Room in the Jungle
My Room
Two beds
mosquito netting
a candle
and fan
a chair for my suitcase
a coat hook for my jacket
and an open window
to the jungle
where I can stand
and breathe
and bow to nature
who at any moment
will delight me
with another creature
or flowers
in the trees.
Many people have asked me what my room was like on our trip to the Rainforest. If you'd like to know more, the eco-resort company has a web site (with lots of great pictures) at www.perunature.com The picture above I took from their web site.
The challenge for today is to write a poem about your room. You certainly can rhyme the poem if you choose, but I think you'll have more room and can have a better chance of hitting the emotion you want in free verse. Try it. I hope you are enjoying your summer.
