What is that noise
I hear in my house?
It's a scurry.
It's a scraping.
It's a little gray mouse.
His nails are clicking
all over the floor.
I hear him knocking
at every wood door.
With a little gray tail
and noisy small feet,
I think he is looking
for something to eat.
I've set out traps.
I'm not being rude.
That little gray mouse
ate up all my food.
It is that time of year. The mice and packrats are having babies, so who knows where I'm going to find them next. I'm always sad when I find one of them in my swimming pool. Can you write a poem today about one of the pests around your house? (And if you're moved to write about your little brother, that is OK too.)
Welcome
This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

FOOD FIGHT
A lion
and a tiger
are fighting
over food.
I think
their behavior
is terribly
rude.
I'm running away
from them,
quick as
can be
'cause the food
that they're fighting
over
is
ME.
One of my favorite riddles is: How many penguins can a polar bear eat? The answer is zero because polar bears live in the North Pole and penguins are in the South Pole. What interesting and unusual facts do you know about animals? Can you write a poem today that includes one strange fact? Have fun writing.

The Elephant
There is an elephant
in my lunchbox.
He's eating all my food.
He never says,
Please or Thank you.
I think he's very rude.
