A lion
and a tiger
are fighting
over food.
I think
their behavior
is terribly
rude.
I'm running away
from them,
quick as
can be
'cause the food
that they're fighting
over
is
ME.
One of my favorite riddles is: How many penguins can a polar bear eat? The answer is zero because polar bears live in the North Pole and penguins are in the South Pole. What interesting and unusual facts do you know about animals? Can you write a poem today that includes one strange fact? Have fun writing.

COWGIRL ABECEDARIAN
A cowgirl Sue, and her
Big bay horse, Blue,
Clip-clopped, Clip-clopped
Down stone roads, of course
Entering Santa
Fe. "Let's go
Guzzle a gallon of sarsaparilla
Here at the Lone Branch Saloon," said Sue.
"I think that's a great idea," said Blue. "It's
Just what we should do." "Any one
Know Dead Eye Dick? We're
Looking for that
Mean Horse Thief," asked Sue.
Nobody moved. The poker game stopped. No
One even sighed, 'til a
Polite cowboy, who was
Quiet and shy
Replied,
"Sue, we ran Dead Eye Dick out of our
Town--that's what we cowboys do, and
Unless you're looking for a fight, the
Vultures will show you
Where Dead Eyed Dick died.
X my heart, that ain't no lie. In peace
You're welcome here. The score now stands
Zip for Dead Eye Dick-- Town, plus two.
I had fun writing this abecedarian, can you try writing your own poem in this form? Have fun.

SNOWBALLS
All morning
my brother and I
made snowballs
behind the safety
of our snow forts.
We packed firm round balls
for our arsenal.
Then,
when the pile
was big enough,
we had the snowball
fight championship.
I threw first.
Got him in the chest
S-M-A-C-K.
He threw back.
I got a snowball
down my collar
Brrr-rrr-rrr.
We exchanged volleys.
And when the snowballs
were all thrown,
I was wet.
My brother declared himself
snowball throwing
champion of the world.
He said he was the winner
because I was wetter.
We went inside to warm up
and drink hot chocolate.
He doesn't know
I've hidden one
perfect snowball
in the freezer.
I'll get him back
next July.Do you have snow where you live? Can you write a poem about how snow makes you feel? Can you think of words that rhyme with snow? Make a list and see where your poems takes you. Have a fun magic carpet ride to poetry.

Elephants
Have you had enough of food fights? Here is what the elephants do.
ELEPHANTS
An elephant never
has fights with food.
His mother taught him
it’s downright right rude.
You never know who
might get hit and cry
If you toss your food,
or let it fly.
But down by the river
what an incredible sight!
All through the morning
and into the night
Spraying & splashing
left and right
Elephants are having a
water fight.
So here is today's challenge. Think of another animal. We all eat don't we? So what if those animals had a food fight, or fought over food.
Maybe ants, lizards, monkeys, robins or snakes? What would it look like? What would is sound like, or smell like? And my gracious be sure to include what it tastes like and feels like to the animal. Have fun and let those words fly. Have a great day.
