SUMMER

(original art, Joy Acey, all rights reserved)

old wooden row boat
in the gentle current drifts
idle oars at rest

There are times, during this summer when I have felt like that row boat--just drifting with the current, with little energy to do anything more.  The heat affects me that way.  How is your energy level today?  Can you write a poem about that and use a simile or metaphor to show how you feel.  Have fun writing.  Have a great weekend.

  1. Lovely, Joy, & the watercolor adds much to the concrete poem. Yes, I drifted this summer, but certainly needed to some of the time. I like the idea of floating, rocking in a boat.

  6. Joy,
Cloey is right. I like to read it starting with the oars!

  8. Hi Joy! I loved getting your poems in the mail -- thanks for sharing them! This one is also lovely. It's so refreshing to ponder all things water related when it's hot outside. Stay cool and hydrated!!

  9. Very nice, Joy. If I had a summer cottage by the lake, this would be going up on my wall. :)
