I'm tired.
I'm sleepy.
I'm going to bed,
so ideas
I'm thinking
can swim
in my head.
Do you work out problems while you sleep? I often do. If I'm having a problem with a story I'm writing, I frequently think through the problem while I sleep. Or, just before I go to sleep, I think of all the things I need to do the next day. While I'm sleeping my brain orders and simplifies all the tasks and in the morning my list seems much easier to get through. Did you dream last night? Your challenge for today is to write a dream poem. It doesn't have to be logical, but use good details. This is your dream so you can make it anything you want. Have fun writing.
Today I can create an awesome day for myself because I am the director of my life.
Welcome
This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

ME
Somedays I'm small and wobbly.
Somedays I'm big and grand.
Somedays I know just what I want.
Somedays I do not understand.
But no matter what each day may be,
I still am glad that I am me.
What was your day like? How did you feel on this Monday? Can you write a poem today about how you are feeling? Have fun and I hope you enjoy your writing.
Yes, you are what you dream. Dream BIG.

FEATHERS!
Ben Franklin's pen,
hawk's flight,
a boa collar,
feather delight.
No matter what feather
catches the gleam,
may you soar
fulfilling your dreams.
Summer is a great time for dreaming. It is a time to think of the things you'd like to do and who you want to be. Can you make a list of your dreams? Can you turn the list into a poem? Do have fun playing with this prompt.
Do not be afraid. Writing children's poetry can not hurt you.

in the night
like colorful

bright.

One can live joyfully reading children's poetry.

MOONBEAMS
Trap a moonbeam.
Catch a star.
Keep them with you
in a jar.
Sparkling starlight,
shining moonbeams
These are the things
that make up your dreams.
With a jar of moonbeams
and stars bright as the sun,
you will find happiness
and days filled with fun.
Happy Monday. I hope you are ready for a week filled with fun. I know one fun thing you can do today. You can write a poem and give it to a friend. Have fun writing.

DREAMS
Each thirsty night
I am sprinkled
with a soft rain
of words I try
to arrange
in to poems.
What dreams do you have at night? Can you write a list poem about your dreams today? Have fun writing your poem.
Today is the Poetry Friday Round-Up. You can find more poetry on Paul Hankins' blog These 4 Corners. Thanks, Paul, for hosting us today.

FLOATING ON THE RIVER
A river named Poetry
flows through my dreams
with cascading mists
dancing in moonbeams.
The cool taste of words
delights in my ear
as I'm drifting in poems
full of good cheer.
I wade with my Wellies
and grab some smooth stones,
for as long as there's poetry
I've no need to roam.
Exotic destinations are all
found in verse.
Addicted to rhyming,
oh, that is my curse.
flows through my dreams
with cascading mists
dancing in moonbeams.

JIB SAIL
Somehow, it seems right,
the jib, small triangular sail,
is set before the mast,
attached to the bowsprit.
Like the unfurled journeys,
each night, in my dreams
sailing away from you,
but still attached to come home.
Do you know what a jib sail is? How about a Genoa jib, genny jib or a flying jib? Do you know the word bowsprit? Learning new words is one of the fun things I like about reading poetry. I'm always learning. Can you find a new word to write a poem about today? You might want to write your poem in free verse. Have fun writing and learning.

MAKING MEMORIES
I've got two fists of stars
and bright moonlight, it's true,
a wispy cloud to float
across the sky, deep blue.
I've put them in this box.
I'm sending it to you
to help you with your dreams.
I hope you have a few.
Please, close your eyes to sleep
and fill your head with memories.
So then when you awake
you'll send your thoughts to me.
WOW! This poem is definitely a draft. If you'd like to try re-writing the last stanza so the meter and rhyme are better, please do. In the meantime, I'll file this one away to think on some more. What are you thinking about today? Did you learn something new? Can you write a poem about that? Have fun writing.

I FOUND A FEATHER
I found this little feather
I'm sending on to you
to put beneath your pillow
to make your dreams come true.
I've been finding more feathers on my morning walks. I usually pick them up and put them in my pocket while I think about the bird dropping a feather. Have you ever considered how far a feather might travel? I'm getting quite a feather collection. What is something you collect? Can you write a poem about that today? Have fun. Isn't summer time great for writing poetry?

TRAVELING
I'd like to ride
upon a moonbeam
Or slide upon
the starlight's glow.
I'd like to glide
upon a sun mote
Or slip upon
a bright rainbow.
So many ways to travel,
it isn't what it seems.
So I'll say Good Night to you
and ride them in my dreams.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go. Use your imaginations and write a poem about traveling. Have fun.

OFF TO BED
It is time for bed.
I don't want to go.
I want to watch
this TV show.
Mom says,
"It's late.
You know the rule.
It's past 9 now,
tomorrow there's school."
So off I march
to my bed
and dream my program
in my head.
Then tomorrow
when I'm at school,
I'll tell friends
my dreams are cool. What time do you go to bed? Would you like to write a poem today about your bed time or your morning routine? Have fun.
