Christmas YO-YO

For Christmas I want a yo-yo
I'm sure it is the thing
that will make me happy,
with an extra bag of string.

First I'll learn the throw down
I call that Over the Falls,
soon I will be yo-yoing
in all of my school halls.

Daily I will practice
to spin Around the World
and then I'll try to Loop de Loop
with the yo-yo string unfurled.

I can throw a Sleeper
and then try to wake him up.
Next I'll learn to Walk the Dog
though it may start as a pup.

Then I'll Rock the Baby.
That would be so grand.
If I got two for Christmas,
one yo-yo for each hand.

All of the words in italic are yo-yo tricks.  This was a fun poem to research.  I had no idea there were so many web sites to teach one how to throw a yo-yo.  I'm still working on more Christmas poems.  Do you want to try one?  I'd love to read your poem.  Have fun.

  1. Hi Joy,
I'm glad you showed your readers that research counts! I never learned all those yo-yo tricks but I could do one or two.

  2. So where is your yo-yo now? When was the last time you held a yo-yo in your hand? Sounds like the perfect gift to slip into someone's stocking to me.
Hey, and research is the fun part.
