Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

Today was the first day of school,
and now I'm tired.
But the new teacher they've hired
is nobody's fool.
She's assigned us homework
for this very first night--
that hardly seems right--
as my fried brain goes berserk.

Goodness!  I must be too tired to think straight.  This poem really needs lots of help with the meter.  Hey, I thought I was doing OK just to get the rhyming pattern I wanted.  I bet your ear didn't hear the rhymes.  Look carefully and you'll see the weaving pattern of oblique rhymes that I used.  Can you write your own poem aobut the first day of school?

  1. Joy,
Just thinking about school makes you tired. What if you were actually occupying a chair?
