Rain on the window.
Drops on the screen.
The weather is being
extremely mean.
Flood in the garden,
wouldn't you know,
out comes the sunshine
and there's a rainbow.
Every morning for at least a month we've had rain. Part of the fun of living on Kauai though, is seeing all the rainbows. What kind of weather do you like the best? How was today's weather different from yesterday? What do you observe? Today can you write a weather poem? Have fun observing and writing.
Today I'll be happier than a monkey with a bunch of bananas.
Today I harvested a stalk of bananas from my tree.

BRING IT!
Bring on the sunrise.
Bring on the fire.
Bring on a day
that will inspire.
I hope you are enjoying your Presidents Day. Have you been able to get any writing done today? Try, even a little haiku. The picture shows the sunrise that greeted me today.
On my walk this morning I fed the ducks. It is becoming a small daily treat for me. I threw some of the bread crumbs into the pond and was delighted with the fish leaping up to grab the food. What was a treat in your life today? Can you try writing a poem about it? Have fun.
Left to its own devices, writing is like weather. It has a drama, a form, a force to it that shapes the day. Julia Cameron

Rain
I embraced the winter rain,
felt the mist upon my cheeks.
All day I watched the fog tumble
down the hillside from clouds
pinned on the backside
of a sleeping giant.
All the while warmed
by sweet mystery
of weather.
What is something you can embrace? Would you like to write a poem about it? Give it a try. Have fun writing.

RAIN
Rain has been falling.
Grass is covered with dew.
My world is growing.
The earth says, thank you.
What is the weather like in your part of the world? Can you write a poem about that today? Have fun writing.
I'm still in the throws of moving and settling. Hope you have a great day.
May the magic of a rainbow be yours today.

WEATHER
Some days are cloudy.
Some days are hot.
Some days are rainy.
Some days are not.
Some days have rainbows.
Some days wind blows.
Some days are cold.
Some days it snows.
What ever the weather
Can we get together?
What is the weather like in your part of the world? My niece lives in Sydney, Australia, so she is having late fall weather. It will soon be winter there. My friend lives in Colorado and they had snow two weeks ago. I'm in Tucson and we're having hot, hot sunny weather. All over the world the weather is different. Your challenge for today is to write a poem about what the weather is like outside your window. Have a great day enjoying your writing and your weather.
Normally, I do NOT start every line of a poem with a capital letter. In this poem I chose to do that. Can you guess why I started every line with a capital in this poem?

EARLY SPRING
The weather is warm.
The air is dry.
The sky is blue
as the bluest sky.
Wild flowers bloom
on every hill.
Birds are calling
their lovely trill.
Springtime is coming
what a glorious thrill.
Today is beautiful and I'm happy and grateful. What is making you happy today? Can you write a poem about it?
Yesterday morning on my walk there was one bird sitting in the top of the ocotillo singing up a storm. This morning when I walked past that ocotillo, there were two birds sitting there. I guess the singing bird found someone to sing with him. I think my own life is like that. I have lots of friends around, but unless I open my mouth to sing and say, come join me, new friends don't know they are welcome to come and play. Who can you sing out to today?

Is it going to rain?
The clouds are dark and gray.
It will be a pain.
I wish they'd go away.
I'd like to run and play.
I'd like to have some fun.
I'm hoping that this day
will clear and shine with sun.
I hope the sun is shining where you are. Are the birds singing? Are any flowers blooming? I sure wish you were here so we could share a cup of tea and poetry. Have fun writing your own poem today.

Purple Finch
Two purple finch
sat on a telephone line,
said one to the other,
"Oh I opine
that today
will be
sunny and fine."
Said the second finch
to the first,
"I think this weather
is the worst--
desert living
is a curse."
"Ah," said the first finch,
"it all depends
on where your happiness
begins and ends.
I know I can make this
a very good day,
but I will allow you
to have your say."
Oh my goodness, that does need work, but I had so much fun thinking about the conversation between the two finch sitting on the wire this morning. The bright purple male, who is really red, probably was saying "Hey, Honey want to come check out my nest?" It is definitely that time around our house where all the animals are pairing up. Can you write a poem today that is a conversation between two of something? What do you think your shoelace would have to say to your shoe? Could your spoon have something to say to your morning oatmeal? What would a washrag say to your face, or your ears? I know you can have fun with this prompt. If you'd like to share your poem, please leave it in the comments below.

GOOD MORNING
Woke up to a beautiful morning,
just as the gray was slipping away.
The sky is full of pink feather clouds.
I think it will be a beautiful day.
Did you get up early enough to see the sun rise? What did the sky look like on your way to school? Does the way the sky looks affect your mood for the day?
Can you write a poem today about a bright, happy day? Or if you feel like it, write a poem about a really gray, dark day?

HAPPY BOXING DAY
It is the day
after Christmas
and today is the day
to say thanks
for all the people
who worked
yesterday.
To Policemen
and firemen,
doctors and nurses.
To grocery store workers,
waiters and waitresses,
the filling station workers.
To tow truck drivers
and all those people
working in hotels
and the entertainment
industry. The folks
at Disney, Universal, Sea World,
and Knox Berry, Six Flags.
To the people on TV,
the cameramen,
the switchers and audio,
and weather, news,
and sports teams.
To all the people
who worked yesterday
on Christmas,
so you and I could play,
I say, Thank You.
I hope you can enjoy
a Happy Boxing Day.
Boxing Day is the day after Christmas and traditionally it was a day in British households when the servants who had worked the day before so the family could have a lovely holiday dinner--those servants got the next day off and the family they worked for would have their dinner left for them in boxes.
As our society becomes more 24/7 with services available at all hours on all days, the number of persons working on Christmas day has increased. Your challenge for today is to write a poem to thank someone who worked yesterday so that you could have a good Christmas. Today is a great day for writing your "thank you" notes in the form of a poem. Happy Boxing Day.

My Mittens
It is getting cold.
I need a hat.
Can you tell me where
my mittens are at?
My boots are too small.
I need a new jacket.
Found one of my mittens
by my tennis racquet.
This mitten is too small.
Where is the other?
If I can find it
they'll go to my brother.
Nothing fits because
I've gotten older.
And the weather is getting
much, much colder.
I think if you click on the red Play above, you'll be able to hear me read this poem. I'm experimenting with this. I hope it works.
Is it starting to look a lot like Christmas in your part of the world? Do you have new winter clothes to wear? How do you stay warm? What advice do you think your hat, scarf or mittens might give to you about not getting lost? Can you write a persona poem today from the point of view of some piece of your winter clothes? (Some people call this a mask poem--one that gives voice to an object.) Oh, I hope you have fun writing today. I know I will. If you'd like to share your poem, please leave it in the comments below.
Thank you for stopping by. It's time for hot chocolate.
