Little Monster
shivered in bed,
he pulled his covers
over his head.
Moans and whispers
gave him a fright,
he thought he heard
a ghost in the night.
His mother asked him,
"What's the big deal?
Ghosts who eat monsters
surely aren't real."
I thought I was done with ghost poems for a while, then I saw a picture of a kid huddled in bed afraid of the monster hiding under his bed. I had to write the poem of the monster and the ghost. I can see a picture book developing from this idea but first I want to finish a story about Guilda a Quail. Things are picking up. I hope you are keeping busy. Can you write another ghost poem today? If a monster and a ghost were going out together, where would they go? What would they do? Oh my goodness, what would happen if a monster, a ghost and an alien were all friends? (This could start a whole new line of jokes.) Have fun writing your poem.

I love the idea of a monster being afraid of a ghost! Thanks for sharing. Boo!
ReplyDeleteThanks Robyn. So have you figured out a punch line for the ghost, alien and monster who walk into a bar? What did the bartender say?
DeleteSame here, Joy. It's an adorable poem. I can picture that frightened little monster.
ReplyDeleteMy mother once gave my son a spray bottle of monster killer to keep the monsters away while he was sleeping. This son is receiving a Ph.D. soon.
DeleteYou have such a wonderful sensitivity to kids, Joy! I think you have the right job:) Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I have the very best job. I just wish it paid more.
DeleteThank you for the compliment. It means a lot to me.
It's the time for the Autumn People as Bradbury called them. I enjoyed reading your poem aloud, Joy! :)
ReplyDeleteMyra,
DeleteThank you for reading my poem aloud. It is the best way to enjoy poetry, and thank you for the reminder.
Ha!
ReplyDeleteMary Lee, is that like a snicker--a half laugh. I'll have to try even harder.
DeleteJoy,
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading this one when it transforms to a picture book. It's cute as can be. I wish you all the best!
Thanks Linda.
DeleteSurely you can't be done with ghost poems yet, Joy-- not with Friday the 13th this week and Halloween right around the corner? This one's really sweet. Just right for the young ones.
