Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

What the Witch Said

Said a warty witch
as she stood stirring
a bubbly stewy pot,
"My tasty friend,
please jump in.
I like my dinner hot."

For something different today, make a list of at least 10 professions. Then think about what a person in that profession does.  Does it require special tools of clothing?  Can you write a short poem about that person?  Can you include dialogue?  For instance,

MY TEACHER

My teacher claims,
"I have eyes
in back of my head."
I know it's rude to stare.

I've never seen those two eyes
sticking out from there
because the back of her head
in covered with all her hair.

I hope you have fun writing today.  I hope you're having a grand summer.

  1. Joy,

A collection of career poems would be fun to create. Where do you get all these ideas? Are you a magician? Do you pull from a hat?

  2. Linda,

Now there is a topic for a fun poem, what the witch/cook/farmer pulled from her hat. It could be a fun list poem. Thanks for the idea.
I don't know where the ideas come from. I just love writing fun poetry. Glad you enjoy it.
