Nacio Newt

Nacio Newt
was a natty guy.
When he dressed up
he wore a necktie.

At night when he went
to night clubs to play,
"Nice necktie," was what
his neighbors
would say.

Yesterday was Charles Darwin's birthday.  What other scientists do you know about?  Is there a science museum or natural history museum in your town?  Can you write a poem today about science?  Have fun.

  1. Joy,
How did you know it was Charles Darwin's birthday yesterday? What resource do you use for information like that? I imagine that listing could spark many poem ideas.

  2. Linda,
I have about 3 "What happened on this day" books. I like to check them when I get bored and need inspiration. But the Darwin tidbit I got from Garrison Keillor's Writers Almanac http://www.writersalmanac.publicradio.org
    Plus I like celebrations.
My son still remembers the evening we moved to the dining room where he sat in the head chair in a paper crown I'd quickly made for him because he'd learned to ride his bicycle that day.
It is the small things we celebrate that we remember. And isn't any time you eat ice cream a celebration?
And of course a celebration calls for a poem. those are called occasional poems, poems written for a special occasion.
