Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

JIB SAIL

Somehow, it seems right,
the jib, small triangular sail,
is set before the mast,
attached to the bowsprit.

Like the unfurled journeys,
each night, in my dreams
sailing away from you,
but still attached to come home.

Do you know what a jib sail is?  How about a Genoa jib, genny jib or a flying jib?  Do you know the word bowsprit?  Learning new words is one of the fun things I like about reading poetry.  I'm always learning.  Can you find a new word to write a poem about today?  You might want to write your poem in free verse.  Have fun writing and learning.

  1. I think this sounds like the beginning of a picture book. Just sayin'.

    1. Ah, thanks, Rosi. My problem with it is the picturebook would fall in the "and it all was a dream," category. I'd really have to think hard for a different ending.
