Happy Thanksgiving

The turkey in the oven
smells like it is roasting.
The kitchen smells like baking.
Meet the friends we are hosting.

The TV shows a football game
Daddy yells, "Hurray!"
Mom asks us all to please
go outside and play.

My cousin makes a center piece.
My aunt sets the table.
This morning we watched Macy's parade,
it came thru on our cable.

We are all so thankful
for all this food to eat.
I'm glad that you stopped by,
it is a special treat.

  1. Joy, a perfect poem to capture the joys of family gathered together around a lovingly prepared meal to celebrate and give thanks for all their blessings.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Joy, and thank you.

  2. Cory, my poetry sister.
Thanks for stopping by on this holiday. I appreciate you and am thankful for all the beauty you bring to this world.
Are you working 9n another photo-book?

  3. Joy,
Your mention of cable made me step outside the poem (not in a bad way)and think about how our celebrations are different from the original Thanksgiving. Time doesn't stand still; we are not expected to celebrate that same way. Now we can experience events elsewhere while living in our own moment. Wonder what the early Pilgrims would think of that?

  4. Thanks Linda,
Cable and satellite TV have changed our lives. Yesterday my husband was watching games on TV and a had one more going on his ipad. No wonder I feel like I've seen too many football games.
