Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

New Books

A new book
just arrived
in the mail.
It makes
me happy
without fail.

How do books make you feel?  Can you write a poem about that?  My contributor copies of THE POETRY FRIDAY ANTHOLOGY FOR SCIENCE, just arrived in the mail and I really like the collection compiled by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong, published by Pomelo Books.  I'm off to read some of the other poems.  Have fun reading and writing your own poems today.

  1. Your poem "Capillary Action" is going to become a classic favorite science poem of many, Joy! I think it's the best poem in the book for combining a simple and eye-opening experiment with an accessible and easy-to-remember verse for all ages. Kindergartners will be able to chant it and 5th graders will have fun reading it with drama!

    1. Linda, the exciting thing is to be included in anthologies with some many other fantastic children's poets. There are soooo many good poems in these anthologies. Kids are going to have so much fun with them.

  3. I look forward to reading "Capillary Action." Was waiting patiently for my contributor copy of the book, but it's a bit hard reading about lucky others who have it in their hands. My day to read will come!
