Tarantula

If you go out
in the jungle at night,
you may see
an incredible sight.
A tarantula
with eight pink toes
shining bright,
who will be scared
if you scream loudly in fright
and she'll dash away
into the night.

Isn't this a beautiful spider?  Well, I'm sure this spider thinks she is beautiful.  tarantulas are extremely shy, so I was very lucky to be able to get her picture on our night walk.  Do you know what you call someone who is afraid of spiders?  They have arachnophobia.  Little Miss Muffett had a spider, and then there is the Eensy, Weensy Spider.  Can you write your own spider poem today?  Oh this should be a good one.  Do have fun writing your poem today.

  1. Great poem... and fantastic picture!

    Here is my attempt:

    The only kind of spider
that I ever want to see
    is a flattened, squashed, spider
    (but I'm sure he'd disagree!)

  3. Joy,
This weekend, I saw a large spider web built on a front porch corner post of our mountain house. I didn't disturb it. I don't know what kind of spider built it, but I allowed it one small corner outside. Maybe it was looking out at the view too.

We wanted to let you know that we will be using your poem in the Austin ISD District-Wide Poetry Appreciation progam this April. We have a Science Resource Center sends out Tarantulas to classrooms for student observations, so we are including poems with the habitats during the month of April.
What a sweet poem! We have cite the poem and posted you as the poet. Let me know if this will be a problem.
    Have a great day!
    Stella
