Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

GRASSHOPPER

A grasshopper hopped
to the middle of the road.
He watched the cars zoom by.
He sat there patiently, before
he hopped away to fly.

I can't go in the middle of the road,
those cars are zooming by.
When I  hop,  I watch where I land
by the side of the road
and I hold my daddy's hand.

Today's challenge is to write your own poem about a grasshopper, or another insect.  Start by making a list of all the things you know about the insect.  (You might want to observe your insect, or do a little research.)  Then think about how you are similar or different from the insect, and make another list.  Your welcome to leave your creations in the comments.  I'd love to read them.

  1. Joy,
No grasshopper poem from mem but I do have a book to suggest for a fun read about a Cricket. It's called Old Cricket by Lisa Wheeler. I hope you and your readers will look for it.
