Welcome

This is my playground for poetry written for children with ideas and inspiration for writing your own poems. Come on in. Sit for a spell, have a cup of words to swirl around and make your own cup of poetry. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you'll find the Kingdom of Poetry a fun place to be.

School Rules

My school has
a lunchtime rule--
No trading food--
it isn't cool.

But watching you
eat your pumpkin pie
makes me so hungry
 I could cry.

This isn't trading
make no mistake.
I'm just sharing a bite
of my chocolate cake.

You're my best friend
so let's give it a try.
Can I please have
a taste of your pumpkin pie?

Does your school have lunchtime rules?  I know schools that have rules like no peanutbutter (that was because there were children with allergies to peanutbutter) or worse yet, no talking during lunch (because the lunch room got too noisy with all the talking).  Can you write a poem today about school rules?
Oh this seems like a rich area for poetry.  Are there special rules for the school library?  Have fun writing.

  1. Joy,
I don't have a poem but I bet you could get a great list if each person shared one lunchroom experience. Some schools use a traffic signal light to remind students of their noise level. Did you know of this one?

    1. Oh yes, lunchtime is a rich area for poetry. It is the one time during the day that the kids get to have a little freedom.
I've read about the traffic lights, but I've never seen them.
I know at my son's elementary school the kids put their left over everything but meat (slop) into a plastic garbage can that the farmer would pick up daily for his pigs. A great way to recycle.
